One-Tap Recording
Tap the record button to start. Tap stop when you’re done. You can also start recording from:
- Lock Screen — via the widget
- Home Screen — via the widget
- Siri Shortcuts — “Hey Siri, start a Good Take”
Session Mode
When ideas are flowing, use session mode to capture multiple ideas back-to-back without returning to the library between each one. Each idea is saved as a separate recording.
Continuous Recording Mode
For longer sessions, continuous mode lets you record without stopping. Drop markers as you go to flag specific moments, then split the recording into separate ideas when you’re done.
Record with a Metronome
Tap the metronome icon while recording to play a click track. Set the BPM with tap tempo or manually, and choose your beats per measure. The metronome plays through your headphones while you record.
Import Audio
Already have a recording from another app? Use the import button to bring audio files into your Good Take library. Imported files get the same automatic analysis as anything you record — key, BPM, and transcription.
Text Ideas
Not every idea needs audio. Create a text-only idea to jot down a lyric fragment, a song concept, or a note to yourself. Text ideas live in your library alongside recordings and can be tagged and organized the same way.
File Formats
Good Take records in two formats:
- WAV — uncompressed, highest quality
- M4A — compressed, smaller file size
You can choose your preferred format in settings.
Crash Recovery
If the app closes unexpectedly during a recording, Good Take recovers your audio the next time you open it. You won’t lose what you captured.
